This thought-provoking podcast episode with Neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Huberman gives an insightful analysis of the neurological impact that grief can have on our brains. This podcast discusses data collected from various neurological and psychological grief studies that have been done. An assessment of brain scans has helped scientists and doctors better understand the physiological impact that grief can have on our bodies in the moment and long term. This episode uses a lot of medical and scientific terminology however Dr. Huberman explains the analysis of data in a fairly easy way to comprehend. From our nervous systems to our dopamine receptors, grief can make a huge impact on the way that our brains process our reality. There are various levels to an individuals experience of grief and not everybody will grieve the same. I hope this resource helps provide deeper insight into the many ways that grief can alter our brain chemistry if we do not mindfully and healthily process our grief.
Modern psychology has finally started to share data on the mind-body connection when it comes to healing. As we know, healing from a physical injury requires attentive care and a recovery period. Similarly, healing from emotional "injuries" also requires attentive care and a recovery period, as well as an effort to release trapped/stagnant emotional energy from our physical bodies.
If you've had a traumatic experience that you have been emotionally running away from, it can be hard to know how to start healing once you are ready to address your emotions. This video provides a great introduction into understanding how to start healing your trauma.
In 2022, when I came home from a job interview and found my sweet angel Ginger laying lifeless in our backyard I screamed at the top of my lungs and fell to my knees. I called out for my partner and let out a bellowing cry... He came outside and immediately started sobbing when he understood what he was seeing, We cried together for days trying to wrap our heads around what was happening. Our bunny Ginger and his sister Whiskey were our first babies together, we rescued them from an animal sanctuary but in reality they rescued us with their pure playfulness and love. Ginger was truly an angel and my heart broke even more for his sister who had never known life without her brother. We are still grieving the loss of our baby. We laugh at funny memories of him, reminisce on his many shenanigans, and crack a bittersweet smile whenever we remember his sweet cuddles. The bonds that we develop with our animal companions can be extremely special because it is an energetic bond of connection that goes beyond common language and societal construct. It is a pure bond of service, gratitude, and deep presence with one another. This TedTalk highlights the impact that loss of an animal companion can have.
Yogic ideologies acknowledges the energetic ties between our mind and body. This video gives an interesting peek into the yogi philosophy on the ways that grief can be stuck in our physical bodies.
This is a very thought-provoking dialogue about boundaries, self blame, recognizing unhealthy relationships, taking accountability for our own growth and adjusting to our ever-evolving role in our personal relationships. I choose to share discussions like this because they are meant to encourage us to reflect on ways that we might be able to take action to improve any difficult or unhealthy relationships we might have with our loved ones.
In elementary school, I remember that there was this small tree that stood alone on a small hill across from the playground; beneath this tree was a hill of dandelions where swarms of bees used to hangout. I remember laying beneath this tree regularly after school and listening to the bees buzz, watching them with wonder. When I got older and learned that bees were going extinct I knew I wanted to find a way to help the bees and also bring attention to their magical presence on our planet.
A huge part of sustainability is learning how to coexist in harmony with nature. Is it humans or parasites threatening the bees? While modern landscaping and factory farming is contributing to the habitat loss of our bees, there is also a parasite threatening our bee populations. Checkout this educational video to learn more about the MAJOR role that bees play in our environment and tropi mites .
Bee extinction is more than just about honeybees. This video provides insight into the varying species of bees and why the landscaping we plant can have huge implications on the natural ecosystems around us.
Life happens and oftentimes, things are out of our control. This is why being intentional with the things that are within our control can be so powerful. Creating a mindful morning routine was something that radically changed my life. Of course, we're all human and not everyday will look the same but if we are consistent and set the intention to start most of our days with stillness, it can ground us and help us become clear on what we truly want to put our energy towards each day.
Most indigenous cultures have honored nature and structured their lifestyles in such a way that is sustainable. I am inspired by the sustainable traditions and practices of various cultures in an effort to live harmoniously with nature. We truly are all connected to nature and if we all make an effort to be kind to mother earth we can minimize the senseless stripping of her natural resources.

Dr. May from UCLA Health gives a great introductory explanation of what colorectal cancer is, the standards for screenings, and data regarding who is most at risk for colorectal cancer. My mom was diagnosed with stage IV colorectal cancer when I was 12 years old. Her initial prognosis was that she had 6 months - a year to live. Through some drastic lifestyle changes, a disciplined wellness routine, and several major surgeries my mom was able to extend her life five years past what the doctors initially estimated. Unfortunately I am at a higher risk for colorectal cancer since my mom died from it before the age of 50. This is why I have done so much research to learn the best ways to maintain good colon health. I've learned that a lot of the preventative measures are related to diet and exercise. Checkout this resource to learn more!
This is a concise video providing general information on the basics of colorectal cancer with a lack of overly wordy medical terminology!
Checkout this educational video from Dr. Stein from Johns Hopkins University where she analyzes the data of various medical studies to provide a deeper insight into the way colorectal cancer is impacting our country.
